Root Canal Therapy

Description

What's Involved in a Root Canal Therapy Procedure? The first thing to know about the root canal procedure is that it is a full-fledged surgical operation. The procedure usually all takes place in one visit with a second visit required for the placement of a crown. On the first visit one of our Mississauga dentists will access the root of the tooth and the dental pulp chamber. After numbing the area with local anaesthetic, the dentist will drill a hole through the crown of the problematic tooth to access the dental pulp area. This infected area is then cleaned and removed from within the root. The dentist requires the permanent filling up of the canal that was drilled, as well as the infected area within the tooth. Antibiotics and pain relievers are usually provided to the patient, as necessary, for several days after the procedure. A second visit to our Mississauga dental office, which is usually within 1-2 weeks of the first visit, will be required for the placement of a porcelain or gold dental crown or tooth-colored inlay/onlay material.
