Description
Dermal fillers are made from a stabilized hyaluronic acid and are used to smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, enhance certain features, correct asymmetry and replace soft tissue volume loss. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that is already found in our skin. HA helps our skin attract and retain moisture, which can combat signs of aging. As we age our skin loses the ability to do that which causes us to lose volume and develop facial wrinkles. Dermal fillers are commonly used in conjunction with neuromodulators such as Botox and Dysport. Botulinum Toxin Type A is a neurotoxin that blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles. This causes the injected muscle to not contract, softening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Only dynamic wrinkles (caused by facial movements) can be treated. An example of dynamic facial lines are crow’s feet, forehead lines and frown lines. Botox® / Dysport® injections are also used as a preventive treatment against wrinkles.
