Description
Crowns from Dentistry by Dr. Isaac Gabay in Mississauga are a type of dental restoration that, when cemented into place, fully covers the portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line. In comparison, composite fillings/inlays/onlays are dental restorations that are used to fill in or cover over just a portion of a tooth. Since dental crowns encase the entire visible aspect of a tooth, a dental crown essentially becomes the tooth's new outer surface. Crowns are used to rebuild broken or decayed teeth, to strengthen teeth, and as a means by which to enhance the cosmetic appearance of teeth. Our Mississauga dental offices' crowns can be made out of porcelain/ceramic, gold alloy, or a combination of both. Dental crowns are often referred to as "dental caps". Dental Crowns Treatment Process This process usually requires two visits to the dentist. In the first visit, your Mississauga dentist will take X-rays to ensure the roots of the tooth and surrounding bone are in good health. Your dentist then anesthetizes the tooth and reshapes the tooth receiving the crown. The dentist then makes an impression of the tooth to receive the crown and sends it to a dental lab where they construct the crown. It can take 3-4 weeks to prepare the crown. Your dentist will make a temporary crown initially to cover and protect the prepared tooth. In the second visit, your Mississauga dentist will eliminate the temporary crown. They will verify the fit and color of the permanent crown which is going to be fitted. After verification, your new dental crown will be cemented permanently into place.
